A strategic alliance has been formed between four key actors in research, education, healthcare, and innovation to enhance Sweden’s life science sector. The collaboration, coordinated by Medicon Village, includes LUSEM, Skånes universitetssjukhus (Skåne University Hospital) and AstraZeneca.

The alliance aims to accelerate the adoption of healthcare innovations, strengthen collaboration between industry and academia, and develop a sustainable innovation support system in Skåne. Initial focus areas include health economics, public health challenges, innovation systems, intellectual property rights, and sustainability — key factors for Sweden's competitiveness in life science.

“This alliance demonstrates how academia, industry, and healthcare can work together to tackle complex societal challenges. LUSEM brings a broad spectrum of expertise, from sustainability and entrepreneurship to business models, innovation systems, and health economic analysis, enhancing the collaboration’s ability to create value for society at large,” says Joakim Gullstrand, Dean of LUSEM.

A joint steering group, led by Medicon Village as coordinator, will guide the work and ensure effective coordination. The collaboration also means that AstraZeneca becomes a member of Medicon Village, strengthening its engagement in Skåne.

This initiative is seen as an important step toward enhancing Sweden's position as a leading life science nation, creating concrete solutions that benefit both patients and society at large.
