Borrow and return books at LUSEM library

Get a library card

For students and staff at Lund University

  1. Obtain an LU card at one of the card offices.
  2. Register a library account in the Library Catalogue LUBcat.
  3. Log in and activate the account by selecting the student category and home library. If you are a researcher or staff member, activate your account at the library.

For others

Anyone with a Swedish personal identity number, residing in Sweden, and over 18 years old can get a library card by visiting one of the Lund University libraries in person. Bring your photo ID.

If you do not meet the above requirements, you also need to bring a completed guarantee form and a guarantor who can provide identification. The guarantor must be over 18 years old, reside in Sweden, and not be employed at any of the Lund University libraries.

The lending conditions in brief

  • You must be able to present your library card each time you check out a book. 
  • You have an obligation to note the return date and return items on time, regardless of reminders. You are responsible for the borrowed material until it has been returned.
  • The overdue fee for course books is SEK 10 per book and day. 
  • If you have an overdue fee of SEK 100 or more, your library account will be blocked at all Lund University libraries, until the fee is paid.
  • You are responsible for the loans made with your library account. If you lose your card, report it to the library so the account can be blocked.

Borrowing

Use the LUBcat library catalogue to search for materials and see where they are located. If the material is on loan, you can join the queue and will be notified by email when it is available. Choose which university library you want to collect the material from.

In LUBcat, you can also see what you have borrowed and when it is due for return.

Returning

You can return borrowed items at any library within Lund University. Items returned in a return box may be checked in the following working day. The overdue fee for course books is SEK 10 per book per day.

LUSEM Library has a return box outside the library entrance. It is accessible around the clock for students and staff at LUSEM, via Scheelevägen 15H with an LU card. The University Library (UB) has a book drop outside on the west side of the building.

It is your responsibility to note the return date and return borrowed items on time. Automatic reminders are sent via email as an extra service, but even if you do not receive reminders, it is still your responsibility to return items on time.

What happens if the book is returned late?

You are responsible for returning borrowed items on time. If you travel or become ill, you must arrange for someone else to return the items for you. You can also send them by post - you find our address here.

The overdue fee for course books is SEK 10 per book per day. You can pay online via LUBcat or by card at the library that owns the book.

If you are unable to return the book, you must replace it. Purchase a new copy and deliver it to LUSEM library. If neither the book nor a replacement copy is returned within a month, you will receive an invoice to cover the cost of the book.

Automatic renewal if there is no reservation for the book:

  • Coursebooks have 5 automatic renewals.
  • Other books have 5 automatic renewals for students and 12 automatic renewals for researchers.
