Grades and academic credits

Academic credits

When you study at Lund University, your academic accomplishments will be measured in credits, using the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS):

  • 60 ECTS credits equals the workload of a full-time student over one academic year (40 weeks).
  • 30 ECTS credits equals the workload of a full-time student over one semester (20 weeks).

The transcript of results from Lund University will record academic accomplishments in ECTS.

Grading scale at the School of Economics and Management

Grades are awarded in accordance with a criterion-based grading scale A-U(F) at Lund University School of Economics and Management.

GradePointsCharacteristics
A (Excellent)100-85A distinguished result that is excellent with regard to the following aspects – theoretical depth, practical relevance, analytical ability and independent thought.
B (Very good)84-75A very good result with regard to the above-mentioned aspects.
C (Good)74-65The result is of a good standard with regard to the above-mentioned aspects and lives up to expectations.
D (Satisfactory)64-55The result is of a satisfactory standard with regard to the above-mentioned aspects and lives up to expectations.
E (Sufficient) 54-50The result satisfies the minimum requirements with regard to the above-mentioned aspects, but not more.
U/F  (fail)49-0The result does not meet the minimum requirements with regard to the above-mentioned aspects.

With this grading scale, we are are able to provide students with additional information on the average distribution of grades for all courses at the school. It is the examiner who decides whether it is appropriate to convert the graded components in a course to 100 points to simplify the allocation of grades according to the above, or if the scale above should be used for percentage allocation of grades instead.

When all exams within a course are complete, a final grade for the course is calculated. The grade is based on the exams within the course using the A-E grading scale.

Cheating and plagiarism

All suspected cases of cheating and plagiarism in connection with exams are to be reported to the Disciplinary Board at Lund University. Students found guilty of cheating or plagiarism may be suspended from studies for a set period of time.

Change and correction of grade

In case you find inaccuracies in the correction that affect your grade, you can submit a request to change the grade. Please note that there is a difference between changing and correcting grades and that grading decisions cannot be appealed.

Change of grades is relevant when your grade is obviously incorrect. This means that there must be an inaccuracy that can be easily identified and quickly and easily changed. It is thus not a matter of re-correction of the entire examination but of reviewing defined areas in it. A change may be relevant if the examiner missed to correct a question or a page in the examination, if the student inadvertently wrote part of the answer in the wrong space in the examination, for example the answer to question two under question one. Another reason may be if the examiner's assessment is incorrect, for example based on the current correction template. A change must not result in a lowered grade. If, on the other hand, your case concerns the correction of typing errors, error summaries and other miscalculations, it will instead be relevant to a correction of grades. These matters are taken up directly when you collect your examination. You should therefore not fill in the form in these cases.

Please note, that you should request a change shortly after receiving your grade and that you should not collect/pick up your examination until the new decision has been made.
