Markus is currently enrolled on our one-year international Master's Programme in Information Systems. Having completed his first semester, we asked him a few questions about his experience so far.

Why did you choose Lund?
“Professionally, I chose Lund because of the University’s academic reputation and long history of preparing graduates to make meaningful contributions to the world. On a more personal note, I was lucky enough to visit Lund as a child and it left a lasting impression on me. Ever since then, living in Lund and studying at this fantastic University has been a lifelong dream of mine.“

Why did you choose the Master’s Programme in Information Systems?
“I chose the Information Systems Programme because I have an interest in technology and how it influences the world. This Programme was the perfect opportunity to better understand how current and future technologies can make changes on a larger scale.“

What are your thoughts on the programme so far?
This Programme has been incredibly beneficial for my academic and professional development. Thanks to the lectures, literature reading, and case studies, I now have a deeper understanding of the complexities of Information Systems. The Programme has been incredibly enriching and I look forward to applying the skills I have gained in my professional career.

Was it hard to get started with your studies? What’s the difficulty level like?
“I found it refreshing that the learning objectives in this programme did not prioritise raw memorisation, but instead the deeper understanding and meaningful interaction with the content. Much of the course work is reading academic articles, analysing case studies, and writing essays, which I found more engaging. I would say the difficulty level depends on your interest in the topics covered and how strong your writing skills are.“

What’s the sense of community like among classmates?
“There is a strong sense of community and support in my cohort which I felt from the moment I first met my classmates. The connections I made with other classmates have been a substantial part of my positive academic and social experience at Lund.“

What's the process of finding student accommodation in or around Lund?
“My brother and I began looking for housing almost immediately after our acceptance in our masters’ programmes at Lund. We were able to secure a privately owned apartment by beginning the lease early. My best advice for finding housing is to start looking early!“

Do you have any advice for those interested in applying to the Master’s Programme in Information Systems?
“My best advice is to do some research into the academic, historical, and social identity of Lund prior to applying to the Programme so your application can reflect your genuine interest in studying at this world-class institution. If you enjoy technology, and want to develop a deeper understanding of how Information Systems shape the world, this Programme is an excellent opportunity.“
