Summer exchange

Study at one of LUSEM's partner universities this summer!

Participating in a summer exchange is a great way to boost your employability, explore new courses and subjects, practise your language skills and expand your global network.

Summer exchange

Some of LUSEM's partner universities offer summer courses in the framework of the exchange. This means that students nominated by LUSEM are exempted tuition fees. Students applying should be aware that there will be other costs associated with the exchange, such as administrative fees and if applicable -  travel expenses, living costs and costs for activities.

  • You have completed at least 30 credits at the School.

What if I have been on an exchange before?

You can apply for a summer exchange even if you have previously been nominated for an exchange semester through LUSEM. Similarly, participation in a summer exchange will not prevent you from applying for an exchange semester in the future.

Students who have not previously participated in a summer exchange through LUSEM are prioritized in the selection process.

Financing

Students are eligible for CSN only for courses longer than 3 weeks within the EU/EEA, and for courses longer than 13 weeks outside the EU/EEA. Students who apply for summer courses at a Nordic partner university could be eligible for the NOREK scholarship.

Citizens of a non-EU/EEA country must pay a tuition fee

Tuition-fee-paying students who are citizens of a non-EU/EEA country must continue to pay tuition fees to Lund University during their summer exchange, but not to the host university.

Students who do not pay tuition fees in Sweden are not required to pay tuition fees at the host university.

Other summer courses

Some of LUSEM’s partner universities offer another category of summer courses that are not part of an exchange, but where students must pay a tuition fee. LUSEM students are sometimes offered a reduced price for coming from a partner university.

Application is made directly to the university offering the summer course - LUSEM International Office does not deal with applications to this category of summer courses. Summer exchange is a fantastic opportunity to live in another country for a short period of time and meet people with similar and different mindsets of your own!

Emma (Bachelor's in Business and Economics), summer exchange in France

Hi Emma! You have taken the opportunity to participate in two summer exchanges through LUSEM. Where have you been, and what made you apply for a second time?
I have been attending summer exchanges in France both times. The first time I went to Bordeaux and this second time around I was located in Nantes. Summer exchange is a fantastic opportunity to live in another country for a short period of time and meet people with similar (and different) mindsets from your own!

Tell us a few words about the course or courses you studied this summer!
This summer I’ve studied global problem solving, diversity management, psychology of money and sustainability transitions. The first two modules were the most interactive, where the class as a whole discussed requirements of companies who act on the global market. The other two were more focused on group projects, which provided new perspectives on marketing strategies and how they vary between different countries.

What were the highlights during your summer exchange at Audencia Business School?
Exploring the city of Nantes! It is beautiful with its rivers, old buildings and green parks. The fellow summer exchange students and representatives of the school did an amazing job showing me all the sights and make the experience fun for me. In the photo I’m standing next to the Château des ducs de Bretagne, one of the places worth a visit in the city.

You have really boosted your CV with international merits by also spending an exchange semester at LUSEM’s partner university Seoul National University, in South Korea. Do you feel that studying abroad has improved your personal or academic development, and if so, in what way?
Academically, it was a good opportunity to explore the subjects that I found especially interesting during my time in Lund. As Seoul National University is much more focused on in-class participation and offers more contact hours, discussions where possible to a greater extent. This offered new ways of looking at problems and more in-depth learning in these particular subjects.

Personally, the experience of arriving in South Korea just at the outbreak of a world pandemic has made me more at ease when dealing with unpredictable circumstances. In the beginning I wasn’t sure if I was even allowed to stay in Korea. All introductory activities were cancelled and all of the classes were held online. I had been imagining what the life at Seoul National University would be for more than a year, and it turned out to be nothing like what I had expected.

In hindsight, I can safely say that my five months in Korea, in the spring of 2020, turned out to be some of the best in my life. It was very different from what I first had in mind, but I learned so much from not having the “planned" experience – and I will always be thankful for spending my exchange semester at Seoul National University.

It was a pleasure to study my Master’s in International Strategic Management. As I wanted to continue my studies abroad, I applied for a summer exchange in Finland. I chose to study the Information Technology Program at Aalto University, as it suited my personal interests and I wanted to learn more about design and user experience.

Jessica (Master's in International Strategic Management), summer exchange in Finland

Hi Jessica! What made you choose to participate in a summer exchange, and where did you go?
It was a pleasure to study my Master’s in International Strategic Management. As I wanted to continue my studies abroad, I applied for a summer exchange in Finland. I chose to study the Information Technology Program at Aalto University, as it suited my personal interests and I wanted to learn more about design and user experience.

What were the highlights during your summer exchange?
One highlight was when we created a prototype for a mobile application with a design tool software. Furthermore, the business project with our client company provided us with several challenges, which demanded agile approaches within my team. The programme coordinators tried to put teams together according to our personalities and interests, which made the teamwork a very delightful experience. Another highlight was to set up a co-creation workshop and execute it. Lastly, Helsinki and the surrounding area has so much to offer to experience an amazing Finnish summer.

Do you feel that participating in a summer exchange has improved your personal or academic development, and if so, in what way?
The summer exchange improved my personal and academic development in many ways. For the first time, I was able to work in a team with designers, which also changed my perspective on how to use design tools for business projects. In addition, living in Finland was a completely different experience than living in Sweden and helped me become more independent and aware of different cultures. Moreover, design plays a key role in Finland, and I was able to get a lot of inspiration during my stay, which I want to incorporate in my future work.
