The Swedish Interdisciplinary Panels are four databases constructed through merging of individual-level information from a range of administrative registers, stored in Statistics Sweden’s MONA environment. While the available information and the definition of the study populations differ across the databases, they all allow for large-scale life-course studies of a range of outcomes observed during the past half century. SIP – ENTRY

Along with SIP-EXIT, this database was first delivered in 2012 and has been updated in 2017 and again in 2021. The main study population consists of individuals born between 1973-1995, as well as their parents and siblings, and are followed until 2016. The database contains information from a range of administrative registers containing demographic, and socioeconomic information (e.g. educational, occupational and income attainment), in addition to information on health outcomes measured throughout the life course. Currently, the ethical approval governing SIP-ENTRY and SIP-EXIT expires at the end of 2025. The registration numbers (diarienummer) assigned to the ethics approvals are 2012:627, 2017:813 and 2021:02630.

SIP – EXIT

This database shares many similarities with SIP-ENTRY, but with a main study population defined as all in Sweden residing individuals born between 1930-1985, to which all siblings and parents have been added. SIP-EXIT contains information from 1968 and until 2016 and allows largely similar studies as its sister database, however also containing information on pension savings and wealth.

SIP – INTEGRATION

This database is currently being delivered, containing a population of all first-generation immigrants residing in Sweden during the follow-up period, in addition to native born Swedes with native born parents. Again, all first-degree relatives are added to the study population. The database contains information from 1968-2022 from a range of registers administered by Statistics Sweden and the Swedish Migration Agency, offering the ability to examine immigrants’ socioeconomic integration in great detail. The database is constructed based on the ethical approval with the registration number 2023:01258-01.

Access

Researchers at Lund University can apply for access to SIP conditional on being affiliated with the Centre for Economic Demography. Citation

The data should be cited in the following way in all working papers, journal articles, book chapters, etc. using SIP:

"The data used in this article/chapter comes from the Swedish Interdisciplinary Panels (SIP), administered by the Centre for Economic Demography, Lund University, Sweden”.

The data should also be cited during presentations. This pertains both to the name of the database and its administrative home (Centre for Economic Demography, Lund University, Sweden)

All publications (including working papers, conference papers etc.) that are reported in LUCRIS must include the Centre for Economic Demography as one of the affiliated institutions. All output (including working papers, conference papers etc.) that are reported in LUCRIS must indicate SIP as the infrastructure used.
