Jesper Lindqvist is a bachelor’s student in business administration and during the spring semester he has been doing an internship at Boozt headquarters in Malmö. Lund University School of Economics and Management (LUSEM) career services got to visit him at his internship and got a sneak peak into the everyday life of an intern.
Hi Jesper, could you tell us a little bit more about yourself and what you do here?
"So I’m the intern at the buying and merchandising department and I usually do a little bit of everything. We are here to learn and therefore I get to learn a lot about the different parts of the company."
Jesper goes on to tell us about a normal day at work, which could entail both day to day assignments, as looking at orders and talking to suppliers, as well as doing presentations and general management of the business.
What has been the most fun part of the internship?
"It’s just everything! It's always unexpected things happening but as I said, I like solving problems."
Is there any skill from your bachelor’s program that has been especially useful in this internship?
"I would definitely say that the organizational skills have been quite useful, but also presentational skills. However, I feel like we should have gotten more practical skills in like Excel, PowerPoint and all of the actual hardware. Because I feel that if I knew that beforehand it would have helped me a lot in the beginning at the internship. But luckily I have a lot of help here with Excel."
There are many things that are similar to what Jesper has learned in school and he says that its really interesting to get to put the theoretical skills into practical use. Everything is not as his teachers at LUSEM have taught him though.
"A company is based on real people. You can't really summarize a company based on just numbers and statistics and all that hard data. It's also based on people, flexible things and fluid stuff. There are also many discrepancies between theory and practice, which I find quite interesting."
