Comments from LUSEM researchers
Kerstin Enflo is Professor of Economic History at Lund University School of Economics and Management (LUSEM). She is also a co-opted member of the Economic Sciences Prize Committee at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. She comments:
”What I find most fascinating about Claudia Goldin is that she is such an incredibly thorough and skillful economic historian. She goes deep into the sources and finds new ways to measure things,” says Kerstin Enflo and continues:
“The thing I find most impressive about Claudia Goldin is that she is one of those incredibly thorough and conscientious economic historians. She dives deep into the sources and finds new ways of measuring,” says Kerstin Enflo, adding:
“On top of that, she is an extremely modern labour economist, working with methods that truly are econometrically advanced. Other researchers within both labour economics and economic history have the greatest respect for her. That is very impressive, and it also means that her research has a broad impact. Precisely this interdisciplinary quality and thinking outside the box on methods and explanations, around sex differences and gender – make for an explosive trident. Personally, I am really impressed by that,” Kerstin Enflo concludes.

”A scientist in the true sense of the word”
Maria Stanfors is Professor of Economic History and Deputy Dean at Lund University School of Economics and Management (LUSEM). She comments:
“Claudia Goldin really is a person of science in the true sense. She combines theories with empiricism, scours through archives to find new data and works with extending existing theories and developing new ones. Often, she has chosen areas where empiricism exists, investigated related phenomena and tested hypotheses in such a way that they form a greater whole together. In so doing, she has been able both to pose and to answer big questions. These include gender differences in labour market outcomes – are they due to discrimination and if so, what kind of discrimination?”

”Claudia Goldin, honorary doctor at LUSEM (2011) and former member of CED's advisory board, was today awarded the The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel for 'for having advanced our understanding of women’s labour market outcomes'.
Professor Goldin has been a great inspiration for CED researchers and also visited the Center to present her research and interact with affiliates.”
