Reference Management

When you write an academic text, you must cite and refer to your sources correctly. This applies regardless of whether you are writing an essay or other scholarly texts.

Referencing styles

There are several different systems for how to manage references and citations. When writing academic texts, it is important to follow the tradition which applies to the subject in question.

LUSEM recommends the Harvard Style (also known as author‐date) as the standard. This style is very similar to the APA system.

The department of Business Law recommends the Oxford style - The Oxford University Standard for Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA)

You find more information and manuals to the different styles in the library subject guide about referencing.

Reference management software

To facilitate the handling of references there are several programs you can use. As a student or employee at Lund University you can benefit from the collective licenses for EndNote and RefWorks.

You can also use a free program, such as Zotero or Mendeley. The Harvard style for LUSEM can be found in these two programs - search for Lund University School of Economics and Management. Please note that there is no technical support from Lund Univeristy attached to these systems.
