In the beginning of the 21st century, Lund University recognized the emerging potential of entrepreneurship and innovation, setting the stage for what would become the Sten K. Johnson Centre for Entrepreneurship. In 2001, a significant stride was made with the appointment of Hans Landström as Professor of Entrepreneurship at the School of Economics and Management, marking the commencement of a dedicated effort to embed entrepreneurial studies across the university's curriculum. This commitment to innovation in education was highlighted in 2003 with the establishment of a systematic educational structure in entrepreneurship that would serve the entire university, culminating in the launch of an international Master's programme in entrepreneurship and innovation. This programme garnered acclaim as a "cutting-edge study programme" by the Swedish Government in 2009, a testament to its excellence and foresight.

In the spring of 2011, Sten K. Johnson, who was a successful entrepreneur and businessman in Southern Sweden, made a generous donation of 20 million SEK, a pivotal moment that facilitated the creation of the Centre named in his honor. His vision and generosity provided a solid foundation for fostering education and research in entrepreneurship. In 2013, Sten K. Johnson reinforced his commitment with an additional SEK 20 million endowment, ensuring the Centre's enduring legacy.

Now, the Sten K. Johnson Centre for Entrepreneurship stands proudly with a team of approximately 25 dedicated colleagues. We are continuously inspired by the legacy and continue to honor the memory of Sten K. Johnson, with the sustained support and generosity, fueling our growth and our journey forward. Together, we uphold the mission to advance entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs through knowledge, shaping the future of enterprise and innovation.
